Quiet Life
s/t (Cosmodemonic Telegraph)

Quiet Life might be the best sincere indie band from Connecticut since Miracle Legion. The band's self-titled four-song EP is hard to get more than a passing glance at this band, but that glance leaves an imprint. The sound is basically just straightforward guitar-driven indie rock, but it is very cool. "How It Goes" with the right amount of passion, tension, and energy, is the most accessible song. "Kids" has a great guitar break. "Spinning Like a Wreck" is simply dandy with great spindly guitar and a complex arrangement that works brilliantly. The twangier, "Down By the Water" starts out all strummy, but right when you think it's a half-baked alt-country attempt, it shifts in unexpected directions. Quiet Life could be on to something really interesting, but this band will have to manage the trick of staying musically ambitious without getting too self-indulgent. The pop sensibility and musicianship are both in place, so hopefully they'll achieve the right balance on future releases. (Andy Smith)
